One of my most meaningful explorations with AI in design was the creation of a large-scale timeline mural installed on the 23rd floor of ABA Centers HQs. The project, which took nearly nine months and multiple rounds of edits, was commissioned to illustrate the history of ABA therapy and highlight its key authors. To bring this vision to life, I collaborated with AI by using MidJourney to generate portraits and character depictions, while refining the overall design, text, and layout in Illustrator. This process showed me the true value of working with AI in creative projects: it’s not a replacement for the designer, but a powerful collaborator. When handled thoughtfully, AI can spark exploration, accelerate iteration, and deliver results that feel both innovative and human—just as this mural demonstrates.
One of the main challenges was the inconsistency of AI outputs. Early generations varied in style, posture, and overall look, which made it difficult to maintain a unified theme. By refining and standardizing the prompts, I was able to achieve a more cohesive visual language. Even then, I curated results carefully, testing several variations until the depictions felt consistent across the series. On the design side, I used Illustrator to adjust proportions, refine details, and ensure the final artwork aligned with the layout and color palette of the mural.

In addition to my own projects, I have also art directed several pieces where my team incorporated AI as part of the creative process. These projects combined the unique skills of each designer with AI-generated elements, allowing us to explore new visual directions while keeping the final work aligned with brand standards and project goals. My role was to guide the creative vision, refine the concepts, and ensure that the AI outputs were elevated through thoughtful design, storytelling, and execution. The results highlight how AI can enhance a team’s capabilities when used under strong art direction, leading to work that feels both innovative and carefully crafted.
